My poor, neglected blog
But really, what's three and a half weeks between friends? And it has been a busy three and a half weeks. My sister's new roommate, Lindsey, drove up from Colorado and arrived on the 10th. Sis was supposed to have secured an apartment by that time, since she had moved out of her place on campus at the beginning of that week, but she was dragging her feet a little and ended up at our place for a few days. We took care of the paperwork for the girls' place on Sunday and they started the process of getting settled. First priority was beds. My parents have some household stuff in storage over in Ellensburg, about 2 hours east of Seattle, where we used to live when my dad taught at the university there. So Lindsey and I made the trip over Monday while Kristen was at school and picked up, among other things, a twin bed (matress, frame, box board), a queen matress, and a table. It was interesting trying to get stuff out of the storage unit because, of course, everything we needed to get out was at the very back. The whole process was made even more fun by the fact that it had snowed recently, but was just above freezing at the time. We had to pull basically everything out of the shed, try to find somewhere to put it so it wouldn't be soaked when we put it back in, and squeeze a little more into the back of my sister's van than it was designed to carry. By the end of the day Lindsey had decided that if she couldn't find a job doing anything else, she was now qualified to start her own packing company.
Work consumed pretty much all of Tuesday through Friday that week, and Friday night I went straight from work to church to catch a ride to Canada. The outdoors group at the church took 40 people up to Sun Peaks for the weekend. I had a great time on that trip. Three nights, food, transportation to and from...no really, you're going to faint when you hear this number...$90. Snowboarding (yeah, lift tickets were a little extra), snowshoeing, skiing, hot tub (two--right on the front porch of our lodge), lots of snow for snow angels right next to the hot tubs; it was a good weekend. As I only really knew one other guy on the trip when we left, it was also a chance to meet some new people from my church.
I got back from Canada on Monday afternoon and took Lindsey down to my aunt's house in Kent. They had some furniture they were going to get rid of, so we picked it up and took it to the girls' new apartment. Current furnishings include three arm chairs, two card-table chairs, one table, one bed, and one matress on the floor. Oh, and a big pile of lumber--I had put a little loft up in one of the rooms in my apartment, and Lindsey liked it, so she asked me to help her with a bed and a desk for her room. Last weekend we went to Home Depot and picked up, some wood and got it cut. My job intervened for the last few days, but we should actually get the thing put together by Monday. Until then, a good chuck of the living room is covered with 2x4s and plywood.
I don't want to promise I'll get back to this soon, because I know how good I am at not posting for weeks at a time, but right now it is time for me to go play soccer. There is, however definitely more to say, and maybe this time it won't be pushing a month before I get back online. Until then...
