Sore, tired, and a broken hockey stick to round out the weekend
Thank God for Mondays off. It was just one of those weekends; soccer practice for a couple of hours on Saturday and back-to-back hockey games Sunday night. By the end of the second hockey game my left quad had knotted up so badly that I could barely limp through the handshake line. I also managed to block a shot with the instep of my right foot, so I've got a nice little puck-shaped bruise going there. Oh, and like it says in the title, I broke my stick. It was not your typical break, where the worn down blade shatters. The blade is actually in pretty good shape and will probably find a second life in a week or so. Nope, it wouldn't be such a relatively cheap equipment failure for me--I split the shaft lengthwise from where the blade inserts up about six inches.
Still, it was not a bad weekend--or week, for that matter. There's nothing like the feeling of going to sleep completely physically exhausted, which I definitely was last night. I got a call from my friend Chris on Saturday, and my brother at the Air Force Academy on Sunday. Monday I interviewed for a new position at work, and on Thursday I heard back from the hiring manager that he would like to offer me the position if we could work out a couple of things with my current manager. Friday my manager stopped by my desk and we had a good discussion, so I am expecting to hear back from the hiring manager this week. My good interview news went well with Chris', as he has just returned to Longview from what he thought was a pretty good med school interview.
In case you were interested, here's how the rest of the year shapes up:
Wednesday=first day of night skiing at Stevens pass
I am one week away from a trip the the museum of flight with some friends to see the now open display of the concorde.
My brother arrives from the AFA in two weeks.
I am ten workdays away from seven paid days off spanning one weekend. One day of vacation will extend this through a second weekend and the following Monday off will bring the grand total to THIRTEEN days without work.
Aside from Wednesday, there are no firm plans, but the remainder of the year will definitely include several trips to the hills.
I don't know what everyone's holiday plans are, but if they include travel to the Seattle area, be sure to email or give me a call.

It starts with the shoe. Maybe the next day it's a t-shirt or a sock. You don't know if the washing machine ate it, or your roommate borrowed it a month ago and forgot that it was yours. All you know is that by the end of the week, you're walking to class naked because you don't have any clothes left.
