An interesting afternoon
So I had this great idea to invite my cousin up from Kent to check out some of the offerings of the Seattle International Film Festival. It seemed like a good idea for a Friday afternoon. We decided to check out House of Fools at the Egyptian. It turned out to be a slight problem that I didn't know exactly where the Egyptian was. I knew that it was on Capitol Hill and I had the street address. One would think that would be enough information to get you somewhere. Well, we did get there eventually; it just ended up being about two minutes before the picture rolled instead of fifteen or twenty. Being the bright guy that I am, this was when I realized that I had thought about going to the cash machine by my apartment before we headed downtown, but hadn't actually done it. With most of the theaters in the neighborhood, including the Egyptian, being cash only, our situation was further complicated. There is no seating after a film has started at the festival, so there wasn't much time to come up with cash. I didn't think our little outing was doomed, however, because there was a little convenience store with an ATM in the building next door to the theater. Little did I know that this machine would refuse to give me cash. There wasn't time to go anywhere else, so we decided to give up on that show and try again another day. But it doesn't stop there. Today I got online to balance my checkbook and I discovered that, while the ATM had decided not to give me any money, that didn't stop it from withdrawing the money from my account. Call it idiot tax for not planning a little bit farther ahead I guess.
